Dr. Steele Flippin developed the SHAPE Career Assessment® to help women explore, identify and take meaningful actions to get the careers they need, want and deserve. Women surpassed men in working labor in 2020 (U.S. Department of Labor 2020), yet the COVID-19 pandemic set too many women back. If you are ready to move forward, let’s work together to get your career in SHAPE!
Get Your Career in SHAPE
Are you an ambitious, talented woman who wants MORE out of her career to move your life forward?
Join a community of over 20,000 women nationwide who are increasing their self-efficacy and taking positive risks that can change their lives. There are five steps included in the framework:
- Save: Create and nurture a strong financial future
- Hard work: Gain alignment with your boss on your impact
- Advocate: Stand up for yourself, speak up, and get noticed
- Persevere: Keep going, keep trying, and know when it’s time to leave
- Educate: Continually advance your knowledge base and improve upon your skill sets
The SHAPE Career Assessment®
Here’s a breakdown of my study findings into an actionable set of steps. I urge everyone to reflect on these steps, and to incorporate them into their professional lives.
My resources encompass more than just words on a page; they are your companions in self-discovery and professional advancement. Together, let’s explore the answers to essential questions:
- What are your current values, and how do you uphold them in a rapidly changing workforce?
- How can you extract the utmost value from your career and workplace experience?
- What strategies will lead you to successfully navigate workplace challenges?
- In any generation, how do you advance in your career?
Save
Create a strong financial foundation to free yourself from the fear of financial repercussions when making life and career decisions.
Hard Work
This often means delegating, working smarter, and asking for help. Mistakes are not always final. Make sure you’re on the same page as the person who is evaluating you.
Advocate
Speak up for yourself. Do not choose to silence yourself. If this feels difficult, surround yourself with people who will advocate for you when you can’t do it yourself. You need to find your voice and be the best representative for what you need.
Persevere
Careers are journeys full of highs and lows. Approach difficulties with an optimistic view. Have people who can support you at the low points. Don’t miss out on something great by leaving prematurely.
Educate
Commit to a strong educational foundation. This could be formal education or enhancing your skills at your current job. Essentially, it means a lifelong commitment to self-development and learning. This helps grow your confidence in your role and prepares you to take the next step when the time is right.
Remember: When it comes to your career, you need to get in SHAPE, and always choose to SHAPE it for yourself.
